A Translation Guide to the Lymond Chronicles
This booklet translates virtually all the foreign phrases, poems and songs in the Chronicles. It is arranged chronologically, in a small, easy-to-read format.
The Translation Guide is not intended to supplant the excellent Dorothy Dunnett Companions by Elspeth Morrison, but to supplement them. This booklet translates virtually all the foreign phrases, poems and songs in the Chronicles, including those omitted from the Companion such as the Nostradamus chapter headings from Checkmate. It is arranged chronologically in a small, easy-to-read booklet format.
I have formally studied French, Latin, Spanish, Greek and Italian but am no Francis Crawford. Armed with dictionaries and a Latin grammar book, I have just done what anyone with a rudimentary grasp of these languages could do. When I was unfamiliar with a language, I called for help from native speakers.
The translations and choices of passages translated are wholly my own work and in no way the work of Dorothy Dunnett.
